How can you measure how far you’ve traveled? With a small pair of scissors, a 5,400 ft spool of twine, and a vase, I set out walking without a destination.

As I took my initially aimless walk, my attention was most attracted to the various forms of flora that lived along the concrete sidewalks. I collected samples of the ones I admired for even a second.

For every three steps I took, I wrapped the twine around the glass vase once, and each flora sample was joined to the bundle as I found them.
